Southport | 540m2 tenancy defeat, reconfiguration and new awning construction

Commencing in late 2023, Echo Projects Co was engaged by Retail First to complete a 540m2 tenancy defit and reconfiguration as well as the construction of a new awning spanning 40m at their Southport shopping centre, Australia Fair Metro.

This 28-week, $1.2 million project was designed by Burling Brown Architects to completely transform the space. Stretching along 40 meters, the works included new glazed shopfronts to modernise the façade and new external tiling to elevate the outdoor areas. A strategic tenancy split created more flexible spaces, while a custom structural steel awning added both practicality and an architectural feature. Upgraded in-ground plumbing was also installed to support the refreshed design and functionality.

At Echo Projects Co, success means working together, and this project was no exception. Communication and collaboration with Retail First and Burling Brown Architects were essential to achieving shared goals, ensuring every aspect of the project was executed to the highest standard. Beyond the project itself, our team remained focused on the client’s broader priorities: maintaining a live working environment, ensuring uninterrupted centre operations, and prioritising public safety. Weekly site meetings provided a platform for clear communication and progress updates, enabling the team to consistently deliver on time while upholding a high standard of quality.
